Elevate CEO Liam Brown on Moving Beyond the ‘Digital Cow Path’
September 2026 – Following Elevate’s recognition on Pivot AI Global’s LPO 11, Chairman and CEO Liam Brown joined the organisation’s IPO Signal interview series and answered some of the most pressing questions facing legal buyers today, from the rise of AI-powered legal services to information security, defensible AI review, and how organisations should evaluate legal service providers.
A recurring theme throughout the discussion was the need to move beyond simply applying technology to existing processes. Liam cautioned against what he described as paving a ‘digital cow path’ by automating inefficient workflows rather than redesigning them. While technology can improve efficiency, lasting value comes from rethinking how legal work is performed and deciding where AI, technology, and human expertise each create the greatest impact.
This philosophy underpins Elevate’s approach of putting ‘experts in the lead’. AI handles the work that machines can perform efficiently, while experts design or validate the work where human judgment matters.
The interview also explores topics including the evolution from LPOs and ALSPs to AI-powered legal operating models, the defensibility of AI-assisted review, information security expectations for legal service providers, and how organisations can evaluate providers beyond hourly rates.
