The fate of EU laws once the UK has left the EU

It now appears that the Great Repeal Bill is a misnomer and that most, if not all, EU laws will be retained in UK law after Brexit until the UK authorities decide what to do with them.

If the UK laws are retained, this should provide a level of stability for business and investors, although, there is a longer term risk that the laws will be slowly changed and rights eroded.  It is also important to note that even retaining EU laws is not without a high level of complexity as we will need to replace a series of EU agencies with UK quangos.

All in all, the complexity involved in Brexit remains astonishing.

There’s no substitute for the sheer slog that civil servants, government legal service lawyers and, probably external lawyers too, will need to go through to extricate the UK from EU laws as part of Brexit
