Quit the classroom …

Janvi PatelLawyers definitely need to get out of their classroom, their office & their zone. It makes us better people and better lawyers. I recommend mentoring other businesses or to work in-house, but it all comes back to the same point – ‘we need to get out of the box to think outside the-box’
As Steven Johnson notes in his excellent book Where Good Ideas Come From, breakthrough innovation mostly happens when diverse groups of people, with different skills and ideas, bump into and learn from each other. Innovators must be open to new ideas, willing to learn across formal academic disciplines and then build upon existing ideas with contributions of their own. Organic learning is the perfect vehicle for this.
Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg are classic examples of organic learners. All of them dropped out of school – but not out of learning. Jobs said that dropping out allowed him to stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest him and begin auditing the ones that looked interesting.
