The Law Society continues to march forward by publishing its report from its male champions’ round table sessions on gender equality.  I feel encouraged to see the emphasis on unconscious bias and discussion of how to adjust our perceptions.  I truly believe acknowledgement and discussion are the first but very important steps in achieving equality of opportunity for all.  This report provides some useful insights and suggestions for practical steps towards gender equality in law from a male perspective.

Improving retention of senior women in firms and in-house. When women have reached senior positions, they tend to leave full-time frontline work earlier than men – in a law firm context it is not only a case of increasing the percentage of women ‘making’ partner, but also considering how they can best be retained in senior positions for the years to come.
