Challenge
A global technology company headquartered in Asia, with one of the world’s largest IP portfolios, faced a significant backlog of granted US patents requiring comprehensive proofreading. The scale and complexity of the portfolio created multiple challenges:
- Backlog of 1,050+ granted US patents requiring detailed review for errors and compliance
- Requirement of a USPTO-ready Certificate of Correction (CoC) and request letters for identified errors
- Completion of the entire backlog while maintaining the highest accuracy standards
- Ongoing inflow of 40-45 newly granted patents per month, risking future backlog accumulation
Solution
Elevate implemented a scalable, structured proofreading model to eliminate the backlog and establish an ongoing proofreading model to maintain patent accuracy, strengthen enforceability, and reduce prosecution risk.
- Standardised proofreading across a fragmented patent portfolio, creating a consistent approach for patents with unique claim sets
- Combined legal and technical review in a single workflow, ensuring alignment between claims, drawings, and specifications
- Integrated correction workflows into delivery, producing USPTO-ready CoCs and request letters alongside identified errors
- Built a scalable review model, enabling parallel processing of large patent volumes without compromising accuracy
- Embedded multi-stage quality controls, ensured consistency in grammar, claim dependencies, and bibliographic data
- Structured review across face pages, claims, drawings, and specifications to identify errors and compliance gaps early
- Extended the model to newly granted patents through a structured monthly review process, preventing backlog recurrence
