What led you to join Elevate Flexible Resourcing as a secondee?

I love practising law in my fields of expertise, but after Covid, I wanted to do something different from the hours and culture typical of large law firms and the inflexibility of most in-house positions. Moving to a portfolio practice allowed me to both practice the type of law I enjoy and work on short- and long-term projects for different companies. It is the perfect combination of the area of law I love and the flexibility and variety that I find energising.

What do you like most about working as a flexible lawyer for Elevate?

I enjoy most of all the variety of projects and clients. It is satisfying to come up to speed on a matter, acclimate to an organisation, and then become a valuable member of the team based on my knowledge, expertise, and work.

What sorts of matters do you like the most?

I thrive on the intensity of working for a single client on a demanding short-term project where I learn something new and get experience in a new environment or industry.

What’s a typical day in the life of an Elevate Flexible Lawyer?

There isn’t a ‘typical’ day, because every client is different, every matter has unique aspects, and the work on any given day varies. That said, every new assignment involves getting up to speed on a new client and new areas of law and delving into the key details of a matter. I find all of that very enjoyable.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about becoming an Elevate Contract Lawyer?

For anyone considering the flexible paradigm, the first step is to be open to new and interesting fields – types of matters, areas of law, industries, and clients. If you are excited to get meaningful and broader experience in environments different from where you have worked previously, it could be a perfect fit.
