Challenge
A leading global technology-focused bank, specialising in payment infrastructure, struggled for several months to hire a General Counsel. Despite utilising both direct hiring and multiple recruitment agencies, the role’s seniority and complexity in a fast-paced, regulated environment made finding the right candidate exceptionally difficult.
Solution
Our approach prioritised understanding the customer’s ‘job need’ rather than simply the ‘job spec,’ leading to a more effective search:
- We partnered closely with the bank’s senior stakeholders and legal team. This allowed us to conduct a comprehensive scoping exercise to pinpoint the critical strategic priorities and specific hiring criteria for the General Counsel role.
- With a clear understanding of the customer needs, we refined our search to focus on the most relevant talent pools. We leveraged our extensive network, sourcing candidates through our active talent pool, referrals, and targeted outreach.
- We personally interviewed ten candidates using situational and competency-based questions to thoroughly assess their suitability.
- After a rigorous selection process, we presented the top three highly qualified candidates to the bank. All three candidates met with the Chief Legal Officer and Board members.
- The chosen candidate was successfully onboarded within two weeks of Elevate’s engagement.
