Examining ‘The Glass Cliff’ for International Women’s Day 2025

March 6, 2025 – As part of Elevate’s ongoing work to achieve gender equality in the legal profession and in recognition of International Women’s Day and its 2025 theme of ‘Accelerate Action,’ we are holding a lunchtime event in Melbourne on Friday, March 7 featuring legal innovation expert Anna Lozynski. The event will spotlight ‘The Glass Cliff,’ and focus on the systemic challenges women in the legal industry face and how those who have overcome them did so.

‘International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebrating achievements; it’s also about confronting the structural obstacles that continue to hinder women’s advancement,’ said Val Pitt, Director at Elevate. ‘By drawing attention to ‘the Glass Cliff,’ its implications for women in leadership, and the strategies that overcome it, my Elevate colleagues and I aim to drive tangible change towards a more equitable legal landscape.’

The event follows January’s Elevate-hosted event in London featuring Sophie Williams discussing her latest book, The Glass Cliff: Why Women in Power Are Undermined and How to Fight Back, and how to address the systemic dynamic of women who are tasked to lead organisations pursuing unachievable objectives and then faulted for their ‘inability’ to succeed under impossible circumstances.

These events demonstrate Elevate’s commitment to making the legal profession more diverse and inclusive and continue the effort to ‘Accelerate Action’ beyond International Women’s Day.
