In late January, Elevate attended CLOC Institute in London at the Landmark Hotel. The CLOC Institute is an education-focused event that draws on the personal and collective strengths of in-house legal operations professionals.

It was a packed and exciting one-and-a-half day program, bringing together over 400 legal professionals from 25 countries. After inspiring opening remarks by CLOC President Mary O’Carroll, Director of Legal Operations at Google and CLOC Board Member and Europe Lead, Aine Lyons, VP and Deputy General Counsel, Global Legal Operations at VMware, the first session was standing room only for Elevate’s very own Dr. Daniel Katz, VP, Data Science and Innovation. Dan gave an engaging, thought-provoking keynote on how legal technology and innovation has changed the industry as we know it, and provided several predictions for the legal industry.

We were delighted to have plenty of visitors to our sponsor booth. Not surprisingly, our visitors were interested in legal innovation generally, but the key areas of interest this year concerned CLM selection, legal transformation consulting and flexible legal resourcing.

It was great to see lots of familiar faces and to make new connections. While it is clear the usual challenges are there, it was refreshing to feel the energy and optimism in the room.
